The Acting Chairperson of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority Madam Edwina Zackpah has disclosed the LTA is working to develop an enabling regulatory foundation for the digital transformation of Liberia.
Honorable Zackpah said a Digital Economy is built on a foundation of telecommunications and ICT infrastructure, policies, regulations, and applications.
Making a presentation on the topic: Enabling the Digital Economy thru Telecoms and ICT before the Technical Economic Management Team recently, the LTA Acting Chair revealed the digital economy will not be realized until a critical mass of Liberians has access to telecommunications services.
To increase penetration, the LTA Acting Chairperson furthered, the LTA’s Universal Access Fund intends to subsidize the provision of telecoms services to un-served and under-served rural communities.
She said just recently, the LTA launched two pilot UAF projects bringing telephone communications for the first time to thousands of Liberians in rural Grand Kru and Gbapolu Counties.
The UAF is a major initiative by the LTA to bring unconnected and un-banked citizens into the digital economy.
