Hon. Maria G. Harrison was initially appointed to serve as Commissioner on the Liberia Telecommunications Board of Commissioners in June 2014. She was again reappointed in July 2018 to serve a second term on the Board by the President of Liberia, His Excellency, President George Manneh Weah.

While on the Board, Madame Harrison has served multiple roles:

  1. Acting Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners and Commissioner with oversight for the Department of Administration, Operations and Legal Affairs from October 2017 to August 2018.
  2. Commissioner with oversight for the Department of International Gateway Services from June 2014 to October 2017.
  3. Currently Commissioner with oversight for the Department of Engineering & Technology since August 2018.

During her tenure at LTA, Madame Harrison has been instrumental in establishment and launch of the first Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in Liberia in August 2015. She also serves as the Government Representative on the Government Advisory Council of ICANN.

Prior to her appointment at LTA, Hon Harrison served as a Consultant in the energy sector in Liberia on the World Bank Funded Liberia Accelerated Electricity Expansion Project (LACEEP) working towards improving access to cost effective and reliable electricity supply in Liberia.

She has also worked in the both the public and private sector in Liberia and the United States in various engineering and managerial roles in the telecommunications and semiconductor manufacturing industries including as a Molecular Beam Epitaxy Engineer and as a NPI Project Manager at RF MICRO Devices in North Carolina.

Hon. Harrison has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from the University of Liberia. (She was the first female Electrical Engineer from the UL Engineering Program. She further attained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the North Carolina State University in North Carolina. She also has the esteemed designation of Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) with the Association of Operations Management (APICS).

She is a proud member of the Society of Women Engineers, Liberia; a member of the Engineering Society of Liberia as well a founding member of the Association of Liberian Engineers, USA.
